EDUCATION ISSUES

Are you happy with the system of education in Belarus? What would you like to keep? What would you like to change?

In Britain 6th form students choose usually 3-4, maximum 5-6 subjects which they study to sit their A-level exams. Would you like to have a chance to choose subjects when you are in high school? Or, in your view, it will make you less educated and knowledgeable people?

Listen to a conversation between two people discussing this issue. Who do you agree with?

  1. I think we have very good education sistem. Amost all people who pass secondary school in future go to the university. In school we have about 16 compulsory subjects. Also 3 of that subjects we learn at advanced. I do not like so many subjects but it develops the human brain.

    1. I'm not sure that almost all secondary school leavers go to univerisity. Do you think that most students in an ordinary comprehensive school - not a gymnasium - cope with the school curriculum, with all the 16 subjects? Maybe the fewer, the better?
